It’s hard to imagine life without T-shirts.

티셔츠 없는 삶을 상상하기란 어렵다.

But T-shirts didn’t become popular until the 1960s.

그러나 티셔츠는 1960년대가 되어서야 비로소 인기를 끌게 되었다.

During World War I, American soldiers wore wool uniforms in the hot summer of Europe.

제1차 세계 대전 중에 미국 군인들은 유럽의 무더운 여름에 모직 유니폼을 입었다.

They saw European soldiers wearing cotton undershirts and started copying their style.

그들은 유럽 군인들이 면 속셔츠를 입고 있는 것을 보았고 그들의 스타일을 모방하기 시작했다.

Because of their simple shape, they were called T-shirts.

그것은 그 단순한 모양 때문에 티셔츠(T-shirts)라고 불렸다.

By World War II, both the US Army and the Navy included them in their uniforms.

Up until the 1950s, T-shirts were still considered underwear.

People were surprised to see underwear worn as outerwear on the screen.

James Dean made the T-shirt a symbol of cool youth when he wore one in his movie A Rebel Without a Cause.

And the tight style that showed his body soon became popular.

Developments in printing in the 1960s brought another change to T-shirts:

People started printing on them.

These inexpensive cotton canvases became a way for wearers to share their likes and dislikes.

Since then, T-shirts have become even more popular.

그 이후로 티셔츠는 훨씬 더 인기를 누리게 되었다.

They are inexpensive, comfortable, stylish, and fun!
