My name is Greg, and I am a weather scientist.

For six months of the year, my team and I live here at the weather station.

Our job is to observe the Antarctic weather and use that information to study how the climate will change in the future.

My day starts at seven a.m.

After putting on my snowsuit, I walk to the research building.

It is beside the ocean, so I often see fur seals and penguins.

However, on some nights we get a special treat: the auroras—beautiful colored lights in the night sky.

I think the South Pole is the most beautiful place on earth.

And my job never gets boring on the icy continent of Antarctica.

The North and South Poles are quiet, beautiful places.

They are so cold that few people or animals live there.

Both poles are rich in natural oil, gas, and minerals.

So who owns them?

Actually, no country can own the poles.

사실, 어느 나라도 극지방을 소유할 수 없다.

Instead, countries can have research stations there.

Today, a total of thirty countries have research stations at the poles.

Thousands of scientists study the weather and wildlife in these freezing regions.

They can carry out any research, but all of them have to follow one strict rule:
