But, what is static electricity and what causes it?

The word “static” means “not moving.”

So “static electricity” literally means electricity that doesn’t move.

It is as strong as lightning, but it is not dangerous because it doesn’t flow through your body.

Static electricity is caused by friction.

Friction occurs when two things come into contact with each other.

How can this be prevented?

Since dry air increases the chance of static electricity, it is helpful to raise the humidity level.

You can make the air in your room less dry by using a humidifier or a fish tank.
