Are expensive things always better?

비싼 것이 항상 더 좋을까?

An interesting experiment was held on the street.

한 흥미로운 실험이 거리에서 이루어졌다.

In the experiment, people were asked to try two different cakes.

그 실험에서 사람들은 두 가지 다른 케이크를 시식해 보라는 요청을 받았다.

They looked the same, but their prices were quite different.

그 케이크는 똑같아 보였지만, 가격은 매우 달랐다.

One was $15, and the other was $55.

하나는 15달러였고, 다른 하나는 55달러였다.

When asked which cake tasted better, most people agreed that the $55 cake was better.

어떤 케이크가 더 맛있는지 질문을 받았을 때, 대부분의 사람들은 55달러짜리 케이크가 더 맛있다는 것에 동의했다.

They said that the cheaper one was too dry, but the other cake was moist and delicious.

Later, they were surprised to learn that the two cakes were exactly the same.

They were made in the same way and with the same ingredients.

So why did people think they tasted different?

Sometimes, we use price to judge the quality of a product.

We assume that the higher the price is, the better the quality is.

In this case, people assumed that the more expensive cake contained better ingredients or came from a famous bakery.

Therefore, most people in the experiment believed that the more expensive the cake was, the better it would taste.
