Have you ever heard the phrase, “Real men don’t cry,” or “Only girls like pink”?

“진정한 남자는 울지 않는다” 혹은 “여자아이들만 핑크색을 좋아한다”라는 관용구를 들어 본 적이 있는가?

These are common beliefs in our society.

이것들은 우리 사회에서의 일반적인 생각이다.

But isn’t crying a natural way of expressing sadness for all human beings?

하지만 우는 것은 모든 인간이 슬픔을 표현하는 자연스런 방식이지 않은가?

Doesn’t everyone have the right to like any color?

모든 사람은 어떤 색이라도 좋아할 권리가 있지 않은가?

These kinds of biased ideas are called gender stereotypes.

이런 종류의 선입견은 성 고정 관념이라고 불린다.

In Sweden, a kindergarten called Egalia is trying to get rid of them.

스웨덴에서 Egalia(이갈리아)라고 불리는 한 유치원은 그것들을 없애려고 노력하고 있다.

At Egalia, all the toys are for both boys and girls.

This is because there may be some girls who want to play soccer, too.

Teachers call the kids “friends” instead of boys or girls.

At Egalia, they believe that changing beliefs little by little can make big waves for future generations.
