Three businessmen were on a trip and staying on the top floor of a sixty-story hotel.

세 명의 사업가들이 출장 중이었고 60층짜리 호텔의 맨 꼭대기 층에 머물고 있었다.

One day the elevator broke, and the men had to take the stairs all the way up to their room.

어느 날 엘리베이터가 고장 났고, 그 남자들은 방으로 올라가는 내내 계단으로 가야 했다.

Nevertheless, they tried to think positively.

그럼에도 불구하고, 그들은 긍정적으로 생각하려고 노력했다.

They decided to make their walk up the stairs fun.

그들은 계단을 걸어 올라가는 것을 재미있게 만들기로 결정했다.

They agreed that the first man would tell jokes until the twentieth floor, then the second man would sing until the fortieth floor, and finally the third man would tell stories until they reached the top.

그들은 첫 번째 남자가 20층까지 우스갯소리를 하고, 두 번째 남자는 40층까지 노래를 부르고, 마지막으로 세 번째 남자는 그들이 꼭대기 층에 이를 때까지 이야기를 하기로 동의했다.

When they reached the fortieth floor, they were tired but in a good mood.

그들이 40층에 이르렀을 때, 그들은 피곤했지만 기분이 좋았다.

They all thought, “Without this entertainment, this climb would be awful!”

그들은 모두 “이런 오락 거리가 없다면, 이렇게 걸어 올라가는 것은 끔찍할 거야!”라고 생각했다.

Then the third man began telling his story.

He said, “I wish I could tell you a funny story.”

But I have to tell you a sad one:

I left the room key in the car.
