Robinson Crusoe is a novel written by an English writer, Daniel Defoe, in 1719.

It is a very famous novel, and it has been popular with readers for almost 300 years.

그것은 매우 유명한 소설로, 거의 300년 동안 독자들의 인기를 얻어왔다.

However, few people know that the story of Robinson Crusoe was actually based on a true story.

그러나 로빈슨 크루소의 이야기가 사실은 실화에 바탕을 둔 것이라는 것을 아는 사람은 거의 없다.

In 1704, Daniel Defoe heard about a Scottish sailor called Alexander Selkirk.

1704년에 대니얼 디포는 알렉산더 셀커크라고 하는 스코틀랜드 선원에 관해 들었다.

He had a fight with his ship’s captain and was left on a small island near Chile.

그는 배의 선장과 다투었고 칠레 부근 작은 섬에 남겨졌다.

He stayed alone there for four years before he was rescued.

After hearing about Selkirk’s experience, Defoe wrote Robinson Crusoe.

Interestingly, in 1966 the name of the island was changed to “Robinson Crusoe Island” in honor of the much-loved character.
