Groundhog Day is popular in the US and Canada.

그라운드호그 데이는 미국과 캐나다에서 유명합니다.

People observe groundhogs on that day.

사람들은 이 날 그라운드호그들을 관찰하죠.

This is because groundhogs are a sign of spring!

왜냐하면 그라운드호그들이 봄을 알리는 신호이기 때문입니다!

Groundhogs sleep in burrows in winter.

그라운드호그들은 겨울에 굴 속에서 생활합니다.

Around late February, they come out.

2월 말 경, 그라운드호그들은 밖으로 나옵니다.

If the sky is clear, they can see their shadows.

만약 하늘이 맑다면, 그라운드호그들은 자신의 그림자를 볼 수 있습니다.

Then they go back into their burrows.

그러면 그들은 다시 굴로 들어가버리죠.

This means there will be six more weeks of winter.

이것은 겨울이 6주는 더 지속 될 것이라는 뜻입니다.

If they don’t see their shadows, they leave their burrows.

만약 그라운드호그들이 그림자를 볼 수 없다면, 그들은 굴을 떠납니다.

That means spring will come soon.

In the past, farmers watched groundhogs.

When they left their burrows, the farmers started planting crops.
