Day 60: Berlin, Germany

60일차: 독일 베를린

We biked along the Elbe River.

우리는 엘베 강을 따라 자전거를 탔다.

With the night coming, it began to rain.

밤이 오면서 비가 내리기 시작했다.

I thought it wouldn't last long, but it started to pour.

나는 비가 오래 계속되지 않을 것이라고 생각했지만, 퍼붓기 시작했다.

I missed home so much: my warm and cozy room, and my mom's cooking.

나는 내 따뜻하고 아늑한 방과 엄마의 요리가 있는 나의 집이 너무 그리웠다.

We finally arrived at the center of Berlin.

우리는 마침내 베를린의 중심부에 도착했다.

The Brandenburg Gate welcomed us.

브란덴부르크 문이 우리를 맞이했다.

It was behind the gate that the Berlin Wall, which separated East and West Germany from 1961 to 1989, had stood for 28 years.

바로 그 문 뒤에 1961년부터 1989년까지 동독과 서독을 나누었던 베를린 장벽이 28년 동안 서 있었다.

After a short rest at the Tiergarten, a huge park, we went to the East Side Gallery.

큰 공원인 티어가르텐에서의 잠깐의 휴식 뒤에 우리는 이스트 사이드 갤러리에 갔다.

There, a 1.3 kilometer long area of the Berlin Wall still remains.

그곳에 베를린 장벽의 1.3킬로미터 부분이 여전히 남아 있다.

We walked around the wall and saw various symbolic pictures and graffiti on it.

우리는 벽 주변을 걸으며 벽에 있는 여러 가지 상징적인 그림들과 그라피티를 보았다.

Surprisingly, we saw writing in Hangeul: "우리의 소원은 통일"(Our hope is unification).

놀랍게도 우리는 '우리의 소원은 통일'이라는 한글로 씌어진 글자도 보았다.

I silently made a wish that someday we could make that hope come true.

나는 속으로 언젠가는 우리가 그 소원을 이룰 수 있기를 빌었다.
