더 부드러운 세상을 향해: 얀 바밍

Good evening. My name is Magda Sayeg.

안녕하세요. 제 이름은 Magda Sayeg입니다.

I'm a textile artist most widely known for starting the yarn bombing movement.

저는 얀 바밍 운동을 시작한 것으로 널리 알려진 직물 예술가입니다.

Have you heard of yarn bombing?

얀 바밍에 대해 들어보셨나요?

It is taking knitted or crocheted material out into the urban environment.

얀 바밍은 대바늘이나 코바늘로 뜨개질한 것을 도시 환경 속으로 가지고 나오는 것입니다.

You may think that it's similar to graffiti.

여러분은 아마 이것이 그라피티와 비슷하다고 생각할 것입니다.

Unlike graffiti, however, yarn bombing doesn't damage structures or the natural landscape.

하지만 그라피티와 다르게 얀 바밍은 구조물이나 자연 경관에 해를 가하지 않습니다.

It is also temporary and removable.

또한 그것은 일시적이고 제거할 수 있습니다.

Some people worry that yarn bombing is not legal.

몇몇 사람들은 얀 바밍이 합법적이지 않다고 걱정합니다.

That's technically true, but no one has ever given me any trouble because yarn bombs look very innocent.

엄밀히 따지면 사실이지만, 털실 작품들은 매우 순수해 보이기 때문에 저를 힘들게 한 사람은 아무도 없습니다.

Besides, most artists today do yarn installations with permission from property owners or even at their request.

게다가, 요즈음 대부분의 예술가들은 땅의 주인에게 허락을 받거나 심지어 그들의 요청을 받아 털실 작품 설치를 합니다.

When I started this over 10 years ago, I didn't have a word for it, I didn't have any ambitious ideas about it, and I had no grand expectations.

제가 이것을 10년도 더 전에 시작했을 때, 저는 이것을 부를 말도 없었고, 이것에 대한 야심 찬 생각도 없었고, 거창한 기대도 없었습니다.

All I wanted to see was something warm, fuzzy, and human on the cold gray steel things that I looked at every day.

제가 보고 싶었던 것은 제가 매일 봤던 차가운 회색 쇠붙이 위에 따뜻하고 보송보송하며 인간다운 것이 있는 것뿐이었습니다.

So I wrapped a door handle.

그래서 저는 문고리를 감쌌습니다.

I call this the Alpha Piece.

저는 이것을 'Alpha Piece'라고 부릅니다.

Little did I know that this tiny piece would change the course of my life.

이 작은 것이 제 삶의 길을 바꿀 것이라는 것을 저는 몰랐습니다.
