We need energy to live.

우리는 살기 위해 에너지가 필요하다.

Luckily, we can find it everywhere!

It’s in sunlight, water, and wind.

그것은 햇빛, 물, 그리고 바람 속에 있다.

It’s even found under our feet!

그것은 심지어 우리 발밑에서도 발견된다!

The earth is filled with energy—or, heat.

지구는 에너지, 즉 열로 가득 차 있다.

But its surface often moves.

하지만 그것의 표면은 종종 움직인다.

So the heat often escapes through its surface.

그래서 열은 종종 그것의 표면을 통해 빠져나간다.

This heat is called geothermal energy.

이 열은 지열 에너지라고 불린다.

It heats up water near the surface of the earth.

그것은 지구 표면 근처의 물을 뜨겁게 한다.

Some of this heated water is brought to a power plant and made into steam.

이 뜨거워진 물의 일부는 발전소로 옮겨져 증기로 만들어진다.

The steam turns a fan with a generator on it.

Now, we have electricity!

There are many good reasons to use geothermal energy.

지열 에너지를 사용하는 데는 많은 훌륭한 이유들이 있다.

First, the weather doesn’t affect it because the earth is always releasing heat.

첫째, 지구는 항상 열을 방출하고 있기 때문에 날씨가 그것에 영향을 주지 않는다.

But windmills need wind and solar panels need clear skies to work effectively.

Secondly, geothermal plants are small.

They require less land than other plants.

So they can be easily moved to ideal locations.

Geothermal energy isn’t used much yet.

However, it’s good for us and the earth.
