Children are often nervous on their very first day of school.

In Germany, however, this day is fun and exciting thanks to an old tradition.

Children starting first grade in Germany are given cone-shaped bags full of school supplies, toys, and even candy!

This tradition is called “school cones.”

이 전통은 ‘스쿨 콘’이라고 불린다.

It started in the early 1800s.

According to one story, parents or grandparents brought the school cones to the schools.

Then they were hung on a school cone tree in the students’ classroom.

When the tree was ripe with cones, it meant that the students were ready to attend school.
