There is an interesting tradition at some graduation ceremonies.

Many of the graduates throw their graduation caps high into the air.

So how did this tradition begin?

The first graduation cap toss took place at the U.S. Naval Academy in the early 1900s.

Students at the school wore a special hat.

Once they graduated, however, they had to wear different hats to show their new position as officers.
