Britain’s Natural History Museum has / some unique workers.

What is their job?

It is eating animals’ dead bodies!

It sounds scary, / but the workers never complain.

That is because they are beetles.

Beetles are natural cleaners / that have been around / for over 200 million years.

They eat animal waste.

Moreover, / they eat the dead bodies of animals, / except for the bones.

The beetles used by the museum / are only about 10 mm long, / but surprisingly they can eat about 4 kg / a week!

In addition to working at museums, / these beetles also work for scientists.

In the past, / scientists used strong chemicals / to remove the skin and muscle / from the bones of animals / they wanted to study.

과거에 / 과학자들은 강한 화학 물질들을 사용했다 / 가죽과 근육을 제거하기 위해 / 동물의 뼈들에서 / 그들이 연구하기를 원하는

Unfortunately, / those chemicals could damage the bones.

유감스럽게도 / 그 화학 물질들은 뼈들을 손상시킬 수 있었다

However, / the beetles eat all the other body parts / and leave the bones untouched.

하지만 / 딱정벌레들은 사체의 모든 다른 부분을 먹는다 / 그리고 뼈들을 훼손되지 않은 상태로 둔다

Thanks to these new workers, / scientists can get / clean and undamaged bones.
