One day, Persephone was picking flowers in a field.

어느 날 페르세포네는 들판에서 꽃을 꺾고 있었습니다.

Just then, Hades appeared from the underworld.

바로 그때 하데스가 지하 세계에서 나타났습니다.

He fell in love with her and took her to his kingdom.

그는 그녀에게 반해 그녀를 자신의 왕국으로 데려갔습니다.

Demeter, the goddess of the harvest, was Persephone’s mother.

수확의 여신인 데메테르는 페르세포네의 어머니였습니다.

She looked for her daughter everywhere.

그녀는 그녀의 딸을 찾기 위해 온곳을 헤맸습니다.

But she could not find her.

하지만 그녀는 딸을 찾을 수 없었습니다.

Demeter became very sad.

So all the plants started to die.

Zeus worried that people wouldn’t have food.

So he asked Hades to return Persephone.

However, there was a rule.

If someone eats anything from the underworld, they can never leave.

While Persephone was there, she ate six seeds.

Hades let her leave, but only for six months every year.

This is why we have winter.

In winter, Persephone has to stay in the underworld.

So Demeter’s sadness makes plants die.

But they grow again in spring when Persephone returns.

하지만 페르세포네가 돌아오는 봄에 그것들은 다시 자랍니다.
