Arles, the City of Light and Art

아를, 빛과 예술의 도시

Certain artists are so closely linked with particular places that it is hard to separate them.

어떤 예술가들은 특정 장소와 매우 밀접하게 관련되어 있어서 그들을 분리하기 어렵다.

Arles and Van Gogh are like that.

아를과 반 고흐가 그렇다.

Arles is located five hours southeast of Paris and is well known for its magical light and colorful landscape.

아를은 파리에서 남동쪽으로 다섯 시간 거리에 위치하고 있고 마법 같은 빛과 다채로운 풍경으로 잘 알려져 있다.

The most famous resident of this town was Vincent van Gogh.

이 도시에서 가장 유명한 거주자는 빈센트 반 고흐였다.

Leaving behind the gray skies of Paris, he arrived in Arles in 1888.

그는 파리의 흐린 하늘을 뒤로 하고 1888년에 아를에 도착했다.

The town inspired an explosion of creativity.

그 도시는 창의성의 폭발에 영감을 주었다.

Vincent claimed, “The whole future of art is to be found in the south of France.”

빈센트는 “예술의 모든 미래는 프랑스 남부에서 찾아볼 수 있을 것이다.”라고 주장했다.

He worked enthusiastically and produced nearly 200 paintings in just fifteen months.

그는 열정적으로 작업했고 단 15개월 만에 거의 2백 점의 그림을 그렸다.

None of Vincent’s works are left in Arles now, but today you can see a number of them have been recreated in street-side panels.

지금은 아를에 빈센트의 작품이 하나도 남아 있지 않지만, 오늘날 그의 몇몇 작품들이 거리 옆 패널에 재창조되어 있는 것을 볼 수 있다.

Let’s follow Vincent’s traces that remain in Arles.

아를에 남아 있는 빈센트의 흔적을 따라가 보자.
