Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro

클라라와 태양

Klara is an AF (Artificial Friend), a companion robot for children.

클라라는 아이들을 위한 반려 로봇인 AF(인공 친구)이다.

She is solar-powered.

그녀는 태양열로 구동된다.

She stays healthy when she gets the Sun’s nourishment but feels weak and lifeless without sunlight.

그녀는 태양의 영양분을 받으면 건강을 유지하지만 햇빛이 없으면 약하고 생명력이 없는 느낌을 받는다.

At the robot store, she enjoyed taking in the outside world from the windows.

로봇 매장에서 그녀는 창문을 통해 바깥세상을 이해하는 것을 즐겼다.

Klara closely observed what she saw, hoping to learn everything necessary to be a caring and helpful AF.

클라라는 배려하고 도움이 되는 AF가 되기 위해 필요한 모든 것을 배우기를 희망하면서 자신이 본 것을 면밀히 관찰했다.

One evening, she discovered that a homeless man was lying on the street without moving.

어느 날 저녁, 그녀는 한 노숙자가 꼼짝도 하지 않고 거리에 누워 있는 것을 발견했다.

Klara was sad as she believed he had died.

클라라는 그가 죽었다고 믿었기 때문에 슬퍼했다.

But the next morning when the Sun was shining, she was surprised to see that the homeless man was sitting up and stroking his dog.

그러나 태양이 빛나던 다음 날 아침, 그녀는 노숙자가 일어나 앉아서 개를 쓰다듬고 있는 것을 보고 놀랐다.

Klara believed the Sun had saved him and came to have strong faith in the Sun’s power to restore everything.

클라라는 태양이 그를 구해 주었다고 믿었고 모든 것을 회복시키는 태양의 힘에 대한 강한 믿음을 갖게 되었다.
