Survey Ranks Dream Jobs of Students

학생들의 희망 직업 순위를 매긴 설문조사

The Ministry of Education conducts an annual survey to learn about the dream jobs of students in Korea.

교육부는 대한민국의 학생들의 희망 직업에 대해 알아보기 위해 연례 설문조사를 실시한다.

First held in 2007, the survey is organized together with the Korea Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training (KRIVET).

2007년에 처음 시행되었던 그 설문조사는 한국직업능력개발원과 공동으로 준비된다.

The most recent survey was held in the middle of 2024 and involved around 38,000 students in 1,200 elementary, middle, and high schools.

가장 최근 설문조사는 2024년 중반에 시행되었고 1,200개의 초, 중, 고등학교의 약 38,000명의 학생들을 포함했다.

The results were then released to the public in December.

그 다음 그 결과는 12월에 대중들에게 공개되었다.

For the sixth year in a row, elementary school students chose athlete as the most popular dream job.

6년 연속으로, 초등학생들은 가장 인기 있는 희망 직업으로 운동선수를 선택했다.

It was followed in the ranking by doctor, creator, teacher, and chef.

Middle and high school students selected teacher as the most preferred job, and this choice has remained at or near the top since the first survey 17 years ago.

중학교와 고등학생들은 가장 선호하는 직업으로 교사를 골랐으며, 이 선택은 17년 전 첫 설문조사 이래 거의 1위 혹은 상위권에 자리했다.

Middle school students filled out their top five dream jobs on the list with athlete, doctor, police officer, and pharmacist.

중학생들은 그들의 상위 5개 희망 직업 리스트를 운동선수, 의사, 경찰관, 그리고 약사로 채웠다.

High schoolers showed high interest in such professions as nurse, soldier, and police officer.

고등학생들은 간호사, 군인, 그리고 경찰관과 같은 직업에 높은 관심을 보였다.

Both middle and high school students mostly preferred jobs that they considered stable and secure.

중학생과 고등학생들 모두 그들이 안정적이고 보장된 직업이라 여기는 직업들을 주로 선호했다.

At the same time, a significant number of high schoolers said they hoped to become entrepreneurs someday.

동시에, 상당 수의 고등학생들은 그들은 언젠가 사업가가 되기를 희망한다고 말했다.

Overall, this year’s list of dream jobs shared some similarities with that of 2007, when the first survey was conducted.

Jobs like teacher, athlete, and doctor have stayed popular with students for the past 17 years.

On the other hand, jobs like entertainer and civil servant have fallen out of favor with contemporary students.

Instead, they now dream of becoming chefs, creators, and police officers.

대신에, 그들은 이제 요리사, 크리에이터, 그리고 경찰관이 되기를 꿈꾼다.

At the same time, the number of students who said that they do not have a dream job has increased over the years, as well.

동시에, 희망 직업이 없다고 대답한 학생들의 수도 지난 몇 년간 계속해서 증가했다.

Last year, 20.4 percent of elementary school students, 40 percent of middle school students, and 29 percent of high school students gave this response.
