Coyote and the Stars

코요테와 별들

Long ago, Our Mother chose a human to put the stars into the sky.

오래 전 "우리 어머니"는 별들을 하늘에 놓을 한 사람을 골랐어요.

She gave this human a jar full of stars.

그녀는 이 사람에게 별들이 가득한 단지를 주었죠.

Coyote was very curious about this jar and wanted to look inside it.

"코요테"는 이 단지가 매우 궁금해서 안을 들여다보고 싶었어요.

However, Our Mother knew that Coyote always caused trouble.

하지만 우리 어머니는 코요테가 항상 문제를 일으킨다는 것을 알고 있었어요.

For that reason, she told him, “Don’t touch that jar!”

그런 이유로, 그녀는 코요테에게 말했어요. "저 단지를 만지지 말아라!"

Soon, the human was carefully making shapes in the sky and naming each one.

곧 그 사람은 하늘에 신중하게 형상을 만들고 각각에 이름을 붙이고 있었어요.

He used three stars to make the Pot Rest Stars and seven to make the Shield Stars.

그는 세 개의 별을 사용해서 "냄비 받침 별"을 만들고 일곱 개로 "방패 별"을 만들었어요.

Everyone stopped to look up at the shapes in the sky.

모두 하늘에 있는 형상을 보려고 멈춰 섰죠.

They were all amazed by how beautiful the shapes were.

그들은 모두 형상의 아름다움에 감탄했어요.

At that moment, no one was watching Coyote, so he went over to the jar.

그때 아무도 코요테를 보고 있지 않았기 때문에, 그는 단지 쪽으로 갔어요.

More curious than ever, he lifted the lid just a little bit.

여느 때보다 더 호기심이 많아진 그는 뚜껑을 아주 조금 들어올렸어요.

In an instant, the stars burst out and flew upwards.

순식간에 별들이 튀어나와서 위쪽으로 날아갔어요.

They raced here!

그것들은 여기로 쏜살같이 갔어요!

They shot there!

저기로 휙 날아갔어요!

They stuck in the sky with no order at all!

어떤 순서도 없이 하늘에 박혀버렸죠!

And that is why only a few groups of stars have a name and a shape.

그리고 이것이 바로 몇 개의 성단만 이름과 형상을 가지고 있는 이유예요.

The rest are spilled all over the sky.

나머지는 하늘에 온통 엎질러진 거죠.
