What’s That Beautiful Sound?

저 아름다운 소리는 뭐죠?

Have you ever seen or played an organ?

오르간을 보거나 연주해 본 적이 있나요?

This instrument looks very similar to a piano.

이 악기는 피아노와 매우 비슷해 보입니다.

Both of them have keyboards with black and white keys.

둘 다 검은 건반과 흰 건반으로 된 건반을 가지고 있습니다.

They also have pedals.

페달도 가지고 있죠.

However, the two have more differences than similarities.

하지만 둘은 유사점보다 차이점이 더 많습니다.

First, their sizes are different.

첫째, 크기가 다릅니다.

Organs are much bigger than pianos.

오르간은 피아노보다 훨씬 더 큽니다.

Pianos have three pedals and one keyboard, but organs usually have many pedals and one to five keyboards.

피아노는 3개의 페달과 1개의 건반이 있지만, 오르간은 보통 많은 페달과 1~5개의 건반을 가지고 있습니다.

Organs also have long pipes attached to them.

또한 오르간에는 긴 파이프가 달려 있습니다.

Second, the way they make sound is different.

둘째, 소리를 내는 방식이 다릅니다.

Pianos use small hammers and metal strings to make sound.

피아노는 작은 해머와 금속 줄을 사용해서 소리를 냅니다.

When you press a piano key, a hammer hits a string.

피아노 건반을 누를 때, 해머가 줄을 칩니다.

However, organs make sound by using pipes.

하지만 오르간은 파이프를 사용해서 소리를 냅니다.

When you press an organ key, air is pushed through a pipe.

오르간 건반을 누를 때, 공기가 파이프를 통해 전달됩니다.

Unlike piano pedals, each organ pedal can also make a different sound.

피아노 페달과 다르게, 각각의 오르간 페달은 다른 소리를 낼 수도 있습니다.

Finally, how long the sound lasts is different.

마지막으로, 소리의 지속 시간이 다릅니다.

Pianos make sound for only a few seconds.

피아노는 몇 초 동안만 소리를 냅니다.

After you press a piano’s keys, the sound dies away quickly.

피아노 건반을 누른 후, 소리는 빠르게 사라집니다.

However, organs make sound for an indefinite amount of time.

하지만 오르간은 무한정의 시간 동안 소리를 냅니다.

This sound lasts as long as you hold their keys or pedals down.

이 소리는 건반을 누르거나 페달을 밟고 있는 한 지속됩니다.
