How Beetle Won Her Colors

딱정벌레는 어떻게 색깔을 갖게 되었을까요

Long ago, Beetle lived in the forests of Brazil.

오래 전, 딱정벌레는 브라질의 숲 속에 살았어요.

She was small and gray.

그녀는 작고 회색이었죠.

Her neighbor, Agouti, was big and brown.

그녀의 이웃인 아구티는 크고 갈색이었어요.

He wore a shiny fur coat.

그는 반짝거리는 털 코트를 입고 있었죠.

“Beetle, you aren’t as pretty as me,” Agouti teased.

"딱정벌레야, 너는 나만큼 예쁘지 않구나." 아구티가 놀렸어요.

“You are ugly and plain.”

"너는 못 생겼고 평범해."

Every day, Parrot heard Agouti teasing Beetle.

매일, 앵무새는 아구티가 딱정벌레를 놀리는 것을 들었어요.

“This isn’t right,” he thought.

"이건 옳지 않아." 그는 생각했어요.

One day, he finally said, “Agouti! Listen up! You will race against Beetle. The winner can choose a coat of any color.”

어느 날, 마침내 그가 말했죠, "아구티! 잘 들어! 너는 딱정벌레와 경주를 하게 될 거야. 승자가 어떤 색깔의 코트든 선택할 수 있어."

Agouti liked that idea, so the race started.

아구티는 이 생각을 마음에 들어 했고, 경주가 시작됐어요.

Parrot said, “Go!” and Agouti ran as fast as he could.

앵무새가 "출발!" 이라고 말하자 아구티는 최대한 빨리 달렸어요.

“I can run fast,” Agouti thought, “but Beetle walks slowly. I’m going to win!”

"나는 빨리 달릴 수 있어." 아구티가 생각했어요, "하지만 딱정벌레는 천천히 걷지. 내가 이길 거야!"

Soon, he saw the finish line.

곧, 결승선이 보였어요.

“I win!” he yelled.

"내가 이겼다!" 그가 소리쳤어요.

But wait!

그런데 잠깐!

Beetle was already there!

딱정벌레가 벌써 거기에 와 있었어요.

“How did you run so fast?” Agouti cried.

"넌 어떻게 그렇게 빨리 달렸니?" 아구티가 울부짖었어요.

“I didn’t run. I flew,” Beetle answered.

"나는 달리지 않았어. 날았지." 딱정벌레가 대답했어요.

“I never knew you could fly!” said a very angry Agouti.

"난 네가 날 수 있다는 걸 전혀 몰랐어!" 매우 화가 난 아구티가 말했어요.

Parrot laughed.

앵무새가 웃었죠.

“You only saw Beetle’s plain color. You didn’t see her talents. Don’t judge others by their looks.”

"너는 단지 딱정벌레의 평범한 색깔만 봤어. 그녀의 재능을 보지 않았지. 외모로 남을 평가하지 마라."

Agouti was embarrassed.

아구티는 당황했어요.

He ran and hid in the bushes while Beetle chose a beautiful gold-and-green coat.

그는 딱정벌레가 아름다운 금색과 녹색의 코트를 고르는 동안에 달려 가서 덤불 속에 숨었어요.

Today, her bright colors still shine in the sun.

오늘날, 딱정벌레의 밝은 색깔은 햇빛 속에서 여전히 빛나고 있죠.
