Challenge 1: Ticket for One

도전 1: 한 사람을 위한 티켓

These days, I tend to watch movies on streaming services.

요즘, 나는 스트리밍 서비스로 영화를 보는 경향이 있다.

However, if I go to the theater, I usually watch an action or science fiction movie with my friends or family.

그런데, 만약 내가 영화관에 가면, 나는 보통 친구들이나 가족과 함께 액션이나 공상과학 영화를 본다.

Those are the kinds of movies they enjoy.

그것들은 그들이 즐기는 종류의 영화들이다.

Going to the theater alone was something I had never done before.

혼자 영화관에 가는 것은 내가 이전에 한 번도 해보지 않은 것이었다.

So, for the first challenge, I decided to give it a try.

그래서, 첫 번째 도전으로, 나는 그것을 시도해 보기로 결심했다.

It was nice to choose the movie and the seat on my own.

스스로 영화와 좌석을 선택하는 것이 좋았다.

I didn’t have to worry about anyone else’s preferences.

나는 다른 누군가의 선호에 관해 걱정하지 않아도 되었다.

I saw the experience as a good opportunity to watch something different, so I chose a historical drama that I had been curious about.

나는 그 경험을 다른 무언가를 관람할 좋은 기회라고 보았으므로, 나는 내가 궁금해해왔던 사극을 골랐다.

At first, it felt a bit awkward and lonely to sit in the theater by myself.

처음에는, 혼자 극장 안에 앉아 있는 것이 다소 어색하고 외롭게 느껴졌다.

But once the movie started, I became completely absorbed in the story.

하지만 영화가 시작하자마자, 나는 이야기에 완전히 몰두하게 되었다.

It was so satisfying just to focus on the movie itself.

그저 영화 자체에 집중하는 것이 매우 만족스러웠다.

There was nothing to distract me!

나를 산만하게 할 게 아무것도 없었다!

This experience made me realize that I sometimes enjoy doing things alone.

이 경험은 내가 가끔 일을 혼자 하는 것을 즐긴다는 것을 깨닫게 했다.

After the movie, I promised myself that I would try to make my own choices more often and enjoy more activities by myself in the future.

영화 후에, 나는 앞으로 더 자주 나만의 선택을 하도록 노력하고 혼자서 더 많은 활동들을 즐기겠다고 스스로 약속했다.

Challenge 2: Riding the Waves

도전 2: 파도타기

Ever since I was a child, I’ve always been afraid of water.

어릴 때부터, 나는 항상 물을 두려워해 왔다.

So I have never enjoyed water activities or felt comfortable while doing them.

그래서 나는 물놀이를 즐기거나 그것을 하는 동안 편하게 느낀 적이 한 번도 없었다.

For the second challenge, I decided to try to overcome this discomfort.

두 번째 도전으로, 나는 이 불편함을 극복하기 위해 노력하기로 결심했다.

However, I wasn’t sure what to do at first.

하지만 나는 처음에 무엇을 해야 할지 잘 몰랐다.

One day, I came across a video clip of my cousin surfing at an indoor pool on social media.

어느 날, 나는 소셜 미디어로 실내 수영장에서 서핑하는 사촌의 영상을 우연히 보았다.

It looked fun, and I liked the fact that it took place in a shallow pool, not in the ocean.

그것은 재미있어 보였고, 나는 그것이 바다가 아닌 얕은 수영장에서 행해졌다는 사실이 마음에 들었다.

I messaged my cousin about it.

나는 내 사촌에게 그것에 관해 메시지를 보냈다.

She assured me that it wasn’t too hard, so I signed up for a beginner course.

그녀가 내게 그것이 아주 어렵지는 않았다고 장담해서, 나는 초보자 과정에 등록했다.
