A Day of Wonder in Cappadocia

카파도키아에서 보낸 놀라운 하루

It was early morning, and the sun was not even up yet.

태양이 아직 뜨지도 않은 이른 아침이었습니다.

My friends and I, tired but excited, boarded a colorful hot air balloon.

피곤했지만 흥분해 있던 친구와 나는 알록달록한 열기구에 올랐습니다.

As the sun rose over the horizon, we were floating above Cappadocia, Turkey.

해가 수평선 위로 떠올랐을 때 우리는 터키의 카파도키아 위를 날고 있었습니다.

The ground below us must have been the strangest place on earth.

우리 밑의 땅은 지구상에서 가장 이상한 곳 같았습니다.

Cappadocia’s moon-like landscape was absolutely fascinating!

달모양을 한 카파도키아의 경관은 그야말로 환상적이었습니다.

It was formed by volcanic eruptions thousands of years ago.

그것은 수천 년 전 화산 분출로 형성되었습니다.

After that, wind and water erosion shaped it into valleys and cones of rock called “fairy chimneys.”

이후 바람과 물에 의한 침식으로 계곡과 “요정의 굴뚝”이라고 불리는 원통모양의 바위가 형성되었죠.

In addition, people carved caves into these rock formations, which also contribute to the region’s bizarre but fantastic scenery.

이에 더해 사람들은 이렇게 형성된 바위를 깎아내어 동굴을 만들었는데, 이것은 괴상하지만 환상적인 지역 경관을 만드는 데 한몫을 하였습니다.

After the hot air balloon ride, we took a sightseeing tour.

열기구를 타고 난 뒤 우리는 관광에 나섰습니다.

We started in the Pasabag Valley, where you can find Cappadocia’s most impressive collection of fairy chimneys.

여정은 먼저 카파도키아에서 가장 인상적인 요정의 굴뚝이 모여있는 것을 볼 수 있는 파사백 계곡에서 시작되었습니다.

There were different types of fairy chimneys that looked like mushrooms or asparagus.

버섯이나 아스파라거스와 비슷하게 생긴 다양한 유형의 요정의 굴뚝이 있었습니다.

After that, we visited Uchisar Castle, the highest point in Cappadocia.

그리고 나서 우리는 카파도키아에서 가장 높은 곳인 우치사르 성을 방문했습니다.

The castle’s exterior was unattractive since it looked like a mass of rocks rather than a man-made castle.

사람이 만든 성이라기 보다는 그냥 바위들이 뭉쳐있는 것처럼 보이는 외곽은 매력적이지 못했습니다.

However, the view from it was incredible.

하지만 그곳에서 바라본 경관은 믿을 수 없을 정도였습니다.

Climbing the staircases to reach the top wasn’t easy, but it was definitely worth doing.

계단을 통해 꼭대기까지 오르는 것은 쉽지 않았지만 정말 해볼만한 가치가 있는 일이었습니다.

After a lunch break, we visited Derinkuyu.

점심식사 후 우리는 데린쿠유를 방문했습니다.

It has the deepest underground city in Turkey.

데린쿠유는 터키에서 가장 깊은 지하도시였습니다.

This city reaches about 85 meters deep and could hold up to 20,000 people in its multiple levels long ago.

이 도시는 깊이가 지하 85미터에 이르고 다층구조로 되어 있어 과거에는 최대 2만 명까지 수용할 수 있었다고 합니다.

We had fun exploring the rooms, which were used as schools, churches, and even stables.

학교와 교회, 심지어는 축사로 사용되던 여러 방을 탐험하며 재미있는 시간을 보냈습니다.

There were also tunnels to let in air and huge, rounded stones that acted as doors.

공기를 유입하는 터널, 문의 역할을 했던 거대한 원형 돌 또한 볼 수 있었습니다.

Sightseeing is an exhausting experience!

관광은 기운을 빠지게 하는 경험이죠!

We were happy to head back to our hotel, which was another amazing sight itself.

우리는 호텔로 돌아오게 되어 기뻤는데, 그것은 그 자체로 또 하나의 놀라운 경관이었습니다.

It was built in a cave that had rooms carved right out of the stone.

호텔은 동굴 안에 지어졌는데, 동굴의 바위를 깎아 만든 호텔방들이 있었습니다.

In the hotel, any guest would feel like a cave dweller thousands of years ago.

그 호텔의 투숙객들은 수천 년 전의 동굴 거주자와 같은 기분을 느낄 수 있을 것입니다.

I fell asleep thinking of my day full of wonder, excitement, and memorable experiences!

저는 놀라움과 흥분, 기억할만한 경험으로 가득한 하루를 생각하며 잠에 들었습니다.
