Just like humans, animals have skin.

인간과 마찬가지로 동물들도 피부를 갖고 있다.

It protects them from danger and allows them to survive in nature.

피부는 그들을 위험에서 지켜주고 자연에서 살아남게 해준다.

Here are some animals that use their skin to protect themselves in special ways.

여기 피부를 이용해 특별한 방식으로 자신을 지키는 몇몇 동물들이 있다.

The hippo’s skin is known for a red-colored sweat that looks like blood.

하마의 피부는 피처럼 보이는 붉은색 땀으로 알려져 있다.

This red sweat protects the hippo from strong sunlight, just like sunscreen does for humans.

이 붉은 땀은 선크림이 사람들을 지켜주는 것과 마찬가지로 하마를 강한 햇빛에서 지켜준다.

There are also certain chemicals in this sweat that protect the hippo from annoying bugs.

이 땀에는 하마를 짜증나는 벌레들로부터 지켜주는 특정 화학물질도 들어있다.

Moreover, it kills off any bacteria on the skin so that wounds don’t get infected by dirty water.

게다가, 더러운 물에 감염되지 않도록 피부 위의 박테리아를 모두 죽여준다.
