The sun caught the ends of the hairs along the bear’s back.

태양이 곰의 등을 따라 나 있는 털의 끝부분을 비추었다.

Shining black and silky, it stood on its hind legs, half up, and studied Brian, just studied him.

검게 비단처럼 빛나면서, 그것은 뒷다리로 서서, 몸을 절반 정도 일으킨 채, 브라이언을 살펴보았는데 단지 그를 살펴볼 뿐이었다.

Then it lowered itself and moved slowly to the left, eating berries as it rolled along, delicately using its mouth to lift each berry from the stem.

그러고 나서 곰은 몸을 낮추었고 왼쪽으로 천천히 움직였는데, 나아가면서 입을 섬세하게 사용하여 줄기에서 산딸기를 하나씩 들어 따 먹었다.

In seconds it was gone.

곧 곰은 가 버렸다.

Gone, and Brian still had not moved.

사라졌지만, 브라이언은 여전히 움직이지 못했다.

His tongue was stuck to the top of his mouth, the tip half out, and his eyes were wide.

그의 혀는 끝이 반쯤 나온 채 입천장에 달라붙어 있었고 그의 눈은 커져 있었다.

Then Brian made a low sound, “Nnnnnnnggg.”

그러고 나서 브라이언은 “Nnnnnnnggg”라고 낮은 소리를 냈다.

It made no sense.

그것은 아무 뜻이 없었다.

It was just a sound of fear, of his disbelief that something that large could have come so close to him without his knowing.

그것은 단지 공포의 소리, 그렇게나 커다란 것이 그도 모르는 새에 그에게 그토록 가까이 다가올 수도 있었다는 것이 믿기지 않는다는 소리였다.

Brian couldn’t stop shivering, thinking that the bear could return and attack him anytime.

브라이언은 언제든 그 곰이 되돌아와 그를 공격할 수도 있다고 생각하며 몸을 떠는 것을 멈출 수 없었다.
