Once there was a beach in California that was full of trash.

예전에 캘리포니아에는 쓰레기로 가득 찬 해변이 있었다.

People threw garbage, including cans, plastic, and a lot of glass, onto it.

사람들이 캔, 플라스틱, 그리고 많은 유리를 포함하여 쓰레기를 그곳에 버렸다.

In 1967, the government stopped people from throwing their trash there.

1967년에, 정부는 사람들이 그곳에 쓰레기를 버리는 것을 막았다.

Projects were started to clean up the area.

그 지역을 치우기 위해 프로젝트들이 시작되었다.

Most of the trash was removed.

대부분의 쓰레기는 치워졌다.

However, one big problem remained: how to get rid of the small pieces of glass covering the beach.

하지만, 한 가지 큰 문제가 남아 있었는데, 해변을 덮고 있는 작은 유리 조각들을 어떻게 제거할 것인가 하는 것이었다.

Surprisingly, Mother Nature took care of the problem by herself.

Over the years, the ocean’s waves broke down the glass and made it into tiny smooth pieces that look like jewelry.

수년간, 바다의 파도가 유리를 부수고 그것을 보석처럼 보이는 아주 작고 매끄러운 조각들로 만들었다.

They made the beach sparkle with all the colors of the rainbow!

그것들은 해변이 무지개의 모든 색으로 반짝이게 했다!

Today, this place is known as Glass Beach.

오늘날, 이 장소는 Glass Beach로 알려져 있다.

Unlike in the past, it is now a beautiful place that many people want to visit!

과거와는 달리, 그곳은 이제 많은 사람들이 방문하고 싶어 하는 아름다운 장소이다!
