A rainbow in a bright blue sky is a beautiful sight.

밝 고 푸른 하늘에 있는 무지개는 아름다운 광경이다.

But did you know there are also rainbows at night?

그런데 당신은 밤에도 무지개가 있다는 것을 알고 있었는가?

Just as sunlight produces rainbows, moonlight produces rainbows, too.

마치 햇빛이 무지개를 만들어 내는 것처럼, 달빛 또한 무지개를 만들어 낸다.

These lunar rainbows are known as “moonbows.”

이 달의 무지개는 ‘달무지개’로 알려져 있다.

The basic principle of a moonbow is just like that of a rainbow.

달무지개의 기본 법칙은 무지개의 그것과 똑같다.

However, because moonlight is weaker than sunlight, moonbows look white instead of colored to human eyes.

하지만, 달빛은 햇빛보다 더 약하기 때문에, 달무지개는 사람의 눈에 유채색 대신 하얀색으로 보인다.

So when can we see a moonbow?

그러면 우리는 언제 달무지개를 볼 수 있을까?

First, the air needs to have enough moisture in it, like when or right after it rains, or when you are near a waterfall or a sea.

첫째, 비가 올 때나 온 직후, 또는 당신이 폭포나 바다 근처에 있을 때와 같이, 공기가 그 안에 충분한 수분을 가지고 있을 필요가 있다.

Second, there must be a bright moon which is low and almost full.

둘째, 낮게 떠 있고 거의 보름달에 가까운 밝은 달이 있어야 한다.

Also, a dark sky is necessary.

또한, 어두운 하늘이 필요하다.

Finally, the moon must be behind the viewer.

마지막으로, 달은 보는 사람 뒤에 있어야 한다.

Because of all these requirements, moonbows are much less common than rainbows.

이 모든 요건들 때문에, 달무지개는 무지개보다 훨씬 덜 흔하다.

That is why we do not see them often.
