Have you ever been mad at a company?

Maybe their prices were too high.

Or maybe their products were bad.

Sometimes large groups of people get mad at the same company.

They all agree to stop buying the company’s products.

그들은 모두 그 회사의 제품 구매를 중단하기로 동의한다.

This is called a boycott.

이것은 보이콧이라고 불린다.

The people hope the boycott will make the company fix its problems.

그 사람들은 보이콧이 그 회사로 하여금 문제점들을 고치게 하기를 희망한다.

The word “boycott” comes from a real person.

단어 ‘보이콧’은 실존 인물의 이름에서 유래한다.

Charles Boycott was a landowner in the 1800s.

The people living on his land wanted him to lower the rent.

He said no, so everyone stopped paying rent.

They stopped working in his fields too.

Since then, there have been many boycotts.
