But T-shirts didn’t become popular until the 1960s.

During World War I, American soldiers wore wool uniforms in the hot summer of Europe.

They saw European soldiers wearing cotton undershirts and started copying their style.

Because of their simple shape they were called T-shirts.

By World War II, both the US Army and the Navy included them in their uniforms.

A tennis shirt, also known as a polo shirt, is a thick cotton T-shirt with a collar.

It was invented by a French tennis champion, René Lacoste, in 1926.
