Actually, it’s a south-up map.

This map is a tool for finding countries and also for learning to think differently.

In 1979, an Australian man, Stuart McArthur, published a south-up map to make people think differently about his country.

1979년에 호주 남성인 Stuart McArthur는 사람들이 그의 나라에 대해 다르게 생각하도록 만들기 위해 남쪽이 위로 올라간 지도를 발행했다.

Many maps come from Europe, North America, or Asia.

많은 지도는 유럽, 북미 혹은 아시아에서 만들어진다.

In these maps, Australia is always at the bottom.

McArthur was tired of being at “the bottom of the world.”

So he gave the world a new perspective.

South-up maps can also help people think differently about developing nations.

Richer northern areas are usually at the top.

This can add to stereotypes that they are “more valuable.”

Last week, my family enjoyed Chinese New Year.

The whole body represents togetherness.

Also, my mother made some dumplings and put a white thread inside one of them.

그리고 우리 엄마는 만두를 만드시고, 그중 하나에 흰 실을 넣으셨어.

During dinner, I found the white thread in my dumpling.

나는 저녁 식사 중에 내 만두에서 하얀 실을 발견했어.

My parents said, “It means you will live a long and healthy life!”

부모님께서 “그것은 네가 오래도록 건강하게 살 거라는 의미란다!”라고 말씀하셨어.

Later, we stayed up until midnight to watch fireworks.

Chinese people believe the loud sounds of the fireworks scare away evil spirits.
